AAP Meeting Code of Conduct

AAP is committed to inclusion, equity, and respectful treatment of all meeting participants and seeks to provide a safe and professional atmosphere in which attendees may learn, network, and participate in a welcoming environment of mutual respect. All participants, including, but not limited to, attendees and their family/guests, speakers, members of the press, volunteers, exhibitors, AAP staff, service providers, and all others are expected to abide by this Code of Conduct. This applies to all AAP meetings and events, including those sponsored by organizations other than AAP but held in conjunction with AAP events, on virtual, in-person, public or private platforms. Conduct that is prohibited includes:

  • Harassment or intimidation of any kind including those based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, religion, language, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, physical appearance, disability, veteran/military status, marital/partner status, parental status or other group status.
  • Sexual harassment or intimidation, including unwelcome sexual attention, stalking (physical or virtual), or unsolicited physical contact.
  • Physical violence, yelling or other threatening behavior.
  • Disruption of presentations during sessions, in the exhibit hall, or at other events.
  • Possession or use of any weapons, including firearms, knives, or other dangerous items, is strictly prohibited at all meeting venues and during any event-related activities.
  • Use or possession of illegal drugs and/or severe intoxication.
  • Recording, capture, photography, broadcasting, distribution, or otherwise sharing any sessions, presentations, or materials, nor transfer or sharing login credentials, links, or other access intended for individual use without express written permission of the AAP.
  • Inaccurately representing one’s identity, professional role, and organizational affiliation at any time.  Misrepresentation of oneself or one’s position, use of false credentials, sharing or transferring badges, or any other fraudulent representation in connection with meeting participation is strictly prohibited.

AAP takes seriously any complaint of harassing, unprofessional, disruptive, improper, threatening, or unsafe conduct. All reports will be investigated, and appropriate action will be taken where warranted.  Participants must immediately comply if asked to cease hostile or harassing behavior. AAP reserves the right to take any necessary and appropriate action in response to unacceptable conduct, including immediate removal from the meeting without warning or refund and potential prohibition from future meetings.

The policy below is disclosed to all participants and further elaborates more specific guidelines in place by the American Academy of Pediatrics:
