Accreditation & Objectives

The AAP National Conference & Exhibition is dedicated to keeping you abreast of the latest best practices in pediatrics. Whether you are looking to obtain continuing medical education (CME) credits or dedicated to lifelong learning, this conference provides the biggest selection of pediatric educational opportunities in a variety of formats and topic areas. In addition to the education offered in our program, the AAP also showcases the latest pediatric resources and innovations on the exhibit floor in its AAP Resource Center.

Goals and Objectives

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Continuing Medical Education/Continuing Professional Development (CME/CPD) program develops, maintains, and improves the competence and professional performance of pediatricians and pediatric healthcare professionals by providing quality, relevant, accessible, and effective educational experiences that address gaps in professional practice. The National Conference & Exhibition strives to meet participants’ identified educational needs and support their life-long learning with a goal of improving care for children and families. The AAP is committed to excellence and innovation in education. The AAP National Conference is the forum at which pediatric professionals meet and interact for updates, review of pediatric practice, research, and advocacy. The National Conference provides a place for the AAP governance/administration/organization to interact with its general membership.

Instructional Objectives

The instruction (learning experience) in this activity will:

  1. Provide the most current information related to illness and preventive healthcare of prenatal, neonatal, infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.
  2. Create a forum for discussion of current issues and problems in pediatric healthcare.
  3. Instruct attendees on procedures related to patient health management.
  4. Inform, enable and update on practice management and policy.
  5. Support and train attendees in advocacy of issues related to child health.
  6. Highlight the importance of physician self-care and wellness and their impact on patient care.

Disclosure of Financial Relationships and Resolution of Conflicts of Interest

The AAP Policy on Disclosure of Financial Relationships and Resolution of Conflicts of Interest is designed to ensure quality, objective, balanced, and scientifically rigorous AAP CME activities. All individuals in a position to influence and/or control the content of AAP CME activities are required to disclose to the AAP and subsequently to learners that they either have no relevant financial relationships or any financial relationships with the manufacturer(s) of any commercial product(s) and/or provider(s) of commercial services discussed in CME activities. All potential conflicts of interest are identified and resolved prior to an individual’s confirmation of service at an AAP CME activity. Beyond disclosure of financial relationships, AAP CME faculty are required to disclose to the AAP and to learners when they plan to discuss or demonstrate pharmaceuticals and/or medical devices and/or medical or surgical procedures that involve “off-label” use of a device or pharmaceutical. The AAP is committed to providing learners with commercially unbiased CME activities.

CME Credit Information

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The AAP designates this live activity for a maximum of 49.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This activity is acceptable for a maximum of 49.75 AAP credits. These credits can be applied toward the AAP CME/CPD Award available to Fellows and Candidate Members of the AAP.

The American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME. Physician assistants may receive a maximum of 49.75 hours of Category 1 credit for completing this program.

Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.

This program is accredited for 49.75 NAPNAP CE contact hours of which 28.0 contain pharmacology (Rx) content, (7.5 related to psychopharmacology) (7.5 related to controlled substances), per the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) Continuing Education Guidelines.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the activity, with individual assessments of the participant and feedback to the participant, enables the participant to earn 10 MOC points in the American Board of Pediatrics’ (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABP MOC credit.

Social events and sessions that are not designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ are identified throughout the program.

 

Earn 10 ABP MOC Part 2 Points at the 2017 National Conference & Exhibition

Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) may earn 10 ABP MOC Part 2 points for attending the National Conference and completing a reflective assessment after the meeting. In order to earn 10 ABP MOC Part 2 points, ABP diplomates will need to reflect on what they learned in seven educational sessions they attend, of both shorter (45 minute) and longer (90 minutes or more) duration, throughout the National Conference and answer questions about the new knowledge gained based on what they learned in each of those seven sessions.

Following the National Conference, an electronic assessment will be emailed to registered learners. All questions will need to have an acceptable answer to receive ABP MOC Part 2 points. If ABP diplomates do not complete all questions with an acceptable response, ABP MOC Part 2 points will not be awarded. The AAP will review all responses, and feedback will be provided to the individual.
